Surf, Dive, Fish and Explore!

One of the best ways to experience Guanacaste and the gorgeous Pacific Coast is to take to the sea. We enjoy a privileged location on a beautiful cove near a variety of beaches. You can sail, snorkel, surf, stand-up paddle, or kayak locally. We’ll connect you with rental equipment and private lessons.

Inshore and offshore fishing are excellent all year round – from yellow fin tuna, mahi-mahi and red snapper, to sailfish, marlin and roosterfish. Sport fishing boats can be chartered for full and half day excursions. Whatever you catch our chef is happy to prepare it for your dinner!

Guanacaste’s Pacific waters are a mecca for scuba diving, rewarding divers with plentiful sightings of manta rays, reef sharks, sea turtles, whale sharks, seahorses, octopus, rays, eels and myriad brightly colored fish. Visible from the Hotel Sugar Beach are the Catalina Islands and Sombreros, with ideal diving opportunities. North of the hotel, Ocotal Beach offers excellent reef diving, a relative rarity on the Pacific side.

Other local activities include horseback riding on the beach or inland, and half day tours to Rincón de la Vieja Volcano, Volcanic Hot Springs, and the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. We’re happy to arrange a tour for you or your group.
