Our Environmental Certifications
Our hotel understands that today's clients insist on a company's environmental ethics along with quality of service. We understand that protecting, nurturing and enriching the natural and social environment in which we live makes us a better part of our community, and wise investors in the future.
Over the years we have sought to improve the efficiency of our operations, reduce our impact on the environment, and take part in improving of our local community. The process is ongoing, and we are always looking for ways to do better.
Our efforts have been recognized by the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT), which has awarded us a Certificate of Sustainable Tourism (CST). We currently have a 'two green leaf' rating, and it is our goal and commitment to improve on our ranking while maintaining our current standards.
Participation in the CST is purely voluntary, but it offers consumers a valuable tool in choosing businesses in Costa Rica that adhere to the country's promise of sustainable eco-tourism, for which is it recognized internationally.
The CST program evaluates businesses in the following areas:
- Interaction between the hotel and its surrounding natural habitat.
- The management policies and operations systems within the hotel.
- The infrastructure of education and involvement of guests with the hotel's sustainable projects.
- Programs and benefits to the local community and to Costa Rica.
In addition to our CST certification, the hotel has secured and maintained the Blue Flag designation for Playa Pan de Azúcar.
Hotel Sugar Beach has been awarded a Blue Flag since the program's inception in 2002. The Costa Rican program mirrors the international Blue Flag program in place in dozens of countries around the world. This program monitors sustainable development at beaches and marinas through strict criteria dealing with water quality, environmental education, environmental management, safety and other services.
